Valentin Yakushik is currently a member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics (a think-tank, Kyiv, Ukraine) and an Executive-in-Residence Fellow, Global Fellowship Initiative, Geneva Centre for Security Policy (Switzerland). In 2020-2022 he was a Professor of the Department of International Relations and Social Sciences at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine; in 1993-2020 – Professor of Political Science at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” (Ukraine), Doctor in Political Sciences, and has also a Ph.D. degree (“Candidat of Sciences”) in Law (theory and history of law, history of political and legal thought).

His research interests include interdisciplinary studies in the fields of general theory of the state in transition, comparative political and legal systems, national reconciliation and peace-building.

He has published over 200 articles, and several books, including: “An introduction to political science” (2012); “Problems of theory of the revolutionary and democratic state” (1991); “The state of a transitional type: problems of theory” (1991); “Social reformism in the contemporary world: ideology and politics” (1990); “The social reformist concept of democratic socialism in Portugal: critical analysis of political and legal ideas” (1986); and in co-authorship: “The impact of the global crisis on strategies of the left in post-Soviet Eurasia” (2010); “Aspects of the Orange Revolution” (2007); “The situation of and prospects for the education reform in Ukraine” (2002); “The Caspian basin oil and its impact on Eurasian power games” (1998); “Youth movement and political associations in the contemporary Ukraine” (1997); “Ukraine’s political parties” (1996).
